The BB-168 is known for a reverse die crack that crosses the coin. The coin surface above the crack is lower than the surface below, enough that the ledge can be caught with a fingernail. The strike on the letters D and A above the crack is much stronger than the adjacent letters below the crack.

The obverse bust is badly worn and not worth showing. There is no evidence of the crack on the obverse, though it may have caused a weak strike.

Not really. It was a follow on from an earlier post on a possible bust die crack, but I didn't want to resurrect the old post. This is about as dramatic as a crack gets, and it's easy to see how it affects the strike.

Interesting. I suppose that reverse die was soon retired.

Sorry IndianGoldEagle. It's not worth the effort for this obverse - there's barely an outline of the bust. PCGS has lots of pictures of BB-168 on Coin Facts, filed under 1799 varieties.

This variety is fairly common, over a wide range of grades. This raw example is probably G-4 obverse with a better reverse. The mint used that cracked die to make a lot of coins.
