Hello, I'm new to coin collecting. I'm looking at an 1800 Bust Dollar. But something doesn't seem right to me. The drape doesn't look correct. Could this be a fake? Thank you for any advise.

Your intuition is 100% correct. Definitely not genuine.

There are many replicas out there so really familiarize yourself before attempting to buy. On a good note, you have found a great place to ask questions.

The coin was struck in a ring that had not been invented yet as the coin has raised rims. A one look counterfeit.

Very smart of you to check here first. As a new collector you should ask before any purchase. There are a lot of scammers out there, and a lot of fakes much better than this one.

A genuine example of this coin, in comparable condition, would run many thousands of dollars. The seller is either trying to cheat you with a "chance of a lifetime bargain deal," or charging FMV and going after your life savings.

I think it took me less than half a second to know this is a fake. A new record for me--in case anybody wanted to know.

Glad you checked in with us first. It's an obvious play money looking fake.
