1954 Cinco Centavos Rim/Edge Error - Coin Community Forum

coinhusker26 Valued Member United States 149 Posts	Posted 03/01/2024 9:48 pm Found this 1954 Cinco Centavos in an old collection of a family member and it seems to have a very noticeable rim on the reverse and a non existent, rounded over rim on the obverse. The edge seems to have some sort of erroring as well. Report this Post to the Staff

What's the weight and diameter? Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. coinhusker26 Valued Member United States 149 Posts	Posted 03/04/2024 8:50 pm Weight is 5.52 grams. Which from what I'm finding is almost a whole gram off. Don't have calipers or a tape currently. The small type 54 cinco centavos is 4 grams so they'd be way off. It's been sitting in a 5 gallon jar since the 80's as well. But strange I didn't know people do that. Report this Post to the Staff

I suspect either they were trying to match it with that newer 10 centavos you posted earlier, or they were actually trying to match it with a US quarter. When you found it, was it "with" a bunch of other Mexican coins, or mixed up with a bunch of US coins? Or foreign and US, all mixed up together? I suppose it also depends on how prevalent vending machines were in Mexico in the 1950s. No point trying to fool vending machines that don't exist. This is the oldest I found, and most were 60's and 80's. He used to travel to Mexico, and Costa Rica fairly frequently. Looks like they just made it back in his change jar after a trip.
