Good day to all. Please look at the attached photos of a 2021 quarter which displays two strange stakes descending through Washington's hair. It seems to be enfolded within the design so it can not be a scratch. Is it something retained? Your opinions please. Thankyou

It looks like big die gouges or maybe a die clash. Full pics of the obverse and reverse, please. There are multiple 2021 quarter designs, which one is this?

Probably some kind of die nick/scratch if it those small marks are raised. The larger marks look like reed damage from another quarter.

To me, they look to be a series of die gouges.

Haha, I think you're right! My brain wants to see that pattern of light and shadow as raised, with the triangular remaining metal laying over it. But I think you have it, those are divots, not a ridge.

Yeah - just take the shape into consideration because the light makes them look raised alot of times.

Not sure on Reed Marks. More research needed. John1

Maybe try and take a different picture under different lighting. To me it just doesn't look like reeded contact marks.

No need for more pictures. We've seen thousands of them here.

Recent post about Reed Marks was proven wrong, however your coin looks to have Reed Marks. (going out on a limb here)
