Here's a trio of one-year types from the classic-era of US commemorative coins that were struck in 1937 but dated "1936": 1936 Landing of the Swedes in Delaware, 1936 Battle of Gettysburg 75th Anniversary and 1936 Norfolk, Viginia Tricentennial / Bicentennial. The 300th Anniversary of the Landing of the Swedes in Delaware was celebrated in 1938 - the commemorative half dollar for the event was dated "1936." The Battle of Gettysburg marked its 75th Anniversary in 1938 - the commemorative half dollar for the anniversary was dated "1936". The Norfolk, Virginia half dollar marked the 300th Anniversary of its original land grant (1636) and the 200th Anniversary of it formally becoming a borough in (1736) - the commemorative half dollar was struck in 1937 but dated "1936" to coincide with the actual anniversary years. Note: The "1936" date on each coin was mandated by the US Congress in the Act that authorized it.
