Hello! I bought two 2024 Super Incuse coins: one from RCM and one from TSC. They both have the same problem.

There are lots of small black patches over the gold plating edge. Below is the coin I bought from RCM:

And I bought the second coin from TSC. Although it has less black patches, the remaining two are still significant:

Anyone else has this problem?

I have been collecting the Super Incuse maple series since it had started. And I never saw such issue before. Does anyone know what caused it? Is this a quality issue? Thanks!

The closest to your issue I can recall was the square $3 gold plated coins that showed black spots over time. The theory was that the spots were caused by a chemical reaction with the black foam holding the coin inside the capsule. However, I don't know if this was ever confirmed by the RCM. Perhaps the issue was the capsule itself... But this took a while (months) for the spots to develop.

Did you notice the spots when you received the coins?

@canadian_coins thanks for your insights!

I noticed these spots as soon as I received these coins. These are newly minted coins.

But I agree that these black spots could be caused by chemical residues.

How does this coin look in person? I was thinking of buying one.
