...does anyone have info on a particular mark that appears on several issues of the Netherlands Lion Dollar (Leeuwendaalder)? ... The mark appears on the reverse (rampant lion) between the 3:00 & 4:00 position, outer edge, between the words "DOMINE SERVA"
(please see pic) ... thank you for any help ...

@mrw, I suspect that this is a silver hallmark (with the 925 indicating the fineness). My go-to website for these is:

@Spence ... that was my 1st impression, but the coin is marked (6:00 position, outer edge) .9999, & is confirmed by the mint as produced at that purity ... I've tried twice contacting the Dutch Royal Mint, with no response. They seem to pe kinda picky about their marks, as they are difficult to copy & paste, & I've had to try & reproduce them as best possible with my 'Paint' program ...

Ah yes great point about the fineness--I should have looked more closely.

According to this November 2017 article from Numismatic News, the caduceus (second image from the left) is the mintmark of the Royal Dutch Mint and the bridge (middle image) is the mintmaster privy for the incoming mintmaster, Stephan Satijn. Prior to that a "clipper ship with star" privy mark was used by Ted Peters. As the date of this piece sorta straddles this timeframe, do you see anything which might qualify as a clipper ship and star on the other side or perhaps edge? Or do you see the bridge privy mark? If not, then maybe this is the privy mark for a previous mintmaster.

Added: ok now I see that the raven is the privy for the dude who started in 2022:

Here is a graphic showing the past several privy marks, none of which look like the mark you are asking about.

@Spence ... Both the privy mark (Stephan Satijn, mint master) & mint mark (staff of Mercury) are present on the edge, @ about 8:00 ... as of yet, no response from the RDM on the mark in question ... thanks, John

after 3 attempts, I finally received a reply from the Royal Dutch Mint as to my question of the particular mark on their 2018 Lion Dollar re-strike ( a stylized "925"), which, @Spence, is indeed a sterling silver hallmark ... a bit confusing, as the silver fineness is .9999 on the proof issue ... but they hallmark .925 also, anyway(?) ... here's the reply:

Geachte heer Hunt,

Susan Cokken ...

TRANSLATION:

Dear Mr. Hunt, Thank you very much for your message. This is the guarantee (Hallmark in English) sign. All issues we make are made of silver or gold. For silver, the highest guarantee mark is 925, which means that 925 of 1000 is silver. However, the content of silver in a Leeuwendaalder is higher 999/1000, but if we put a sign of 999 in this, all kinds of other characteristics must be included. We think this is a shame and that is why we use the sign of 925. I hope I have informed you sufficiently. Sincerely, Susan Cokken
...
So, there we have it ... Bedankt, Susan
