The following are images of a 1918 Italy 20 Centesimo that was overstruck on an 1894 Italy 20 Centesimos. Both dates are visible and the designs are different. Is this something that happen rather frequently back then or is there some significant value to this double struck error?

Most (all?) the 1918-1919 20 centesimi coins were overstruck on 1894-1895 20 centesimi coins, due to wartime lack of nickel. So they are not really error coins, but regular overstrikes. No big value in it, but a still a nice coin.

AFAIK there are a few that weren't overstruck, but I'm not very confident. I think it's unusual to have one with so much undertype detail visible, though.

And also, yes, it's an overstrike; "double struck" means a different thing.

I stated it was an overstrike but it's also an on center double strike.....not sure what you mean that "double struck" means a different thing.

very interesting looking coin.. So if 'most' if not all were over struck, my guess would be that the rare ones were the ones that were not overstruck at all..

It is an overstrike. Well documented. All of these were overstruck
