Back in January 2020, I began chronicling my pursuit of Canada's 36 mm $5.00 commemorative silver coins. It took me a little while to find each of the coins I was seeking at a price that matched the budget I had set, but by early 2021 I had assembled the set I targeted and completed my posts on each of them.
In my last post on the coins, I stated:
Quote:Will I expand my $5 collection? As I stated way back at the beginning of this journey (
A New Collecting Pursuit), I may eventually add the 2013-2015 Canada Bank Notes Series of four coins, but I will likely wait for silver to calm down a bit before moving forward.
Well, the urge to scratch my itch to expand my "Group of 12" to include the 2013-2015 Canada Bank Notes Series finally got the better of me, so I've decided to pursue the four coins. As with the original set of $5 coins I pursued, I've set a target budget for my purchases and will "force" myself to be patient with my acquisitions and make purchases only when the "price is right" vs. the "first coin available."
The coins in the series are:
- 2013 Canadian Bank of Commerce - Allegorical Youth Leaning on Large Fish
- 2014 Northern Crown Bank - Lion on the Mountain
- 2014 Bank of Western Canada - Saint George Slaying the Dragon
- 2015 Barclay's Bank - Allegorical Female w/ Globe
I've set my budget at $250 CAD (including S/H) or ~$182.00 USD which equates to ~$45.50 USD per coin (including S/H). For comparison, the issue price for each of the coins was $69.95 or ~$280 CAD (before potential S/H).
Based on the prices I've observed over the past month or so, my target budget of ~$45 USD per coin seems possible with patience - but will not be easy! (All of the coins are readily available, but their asking prices often exceed $50.00 USD per coin before shipping charges - such offerings are non-starters for my new pursuit!)
I'll report back with my progress! Stay tuned!
