Quote: Superman's original motto was truth justice and the American way... False. The earliest version, as seen in the Fleischer cartoons, was simply "Truth and justice". "The American Way" was added for the radio shows during WWII, later for the George Reeves TV show during the Cold War, and not used again until the 1978 movie. There are lots of variants of the phrase, this is just the most well-known, and it always seems to bend based on the perceived culture/needs at the time. -- https://www.supermanhomepage.com/th...stice-motto/"Hope and strength" seems new (despite "Hope" being the meaning behind the "S" in the 2013 movie) and most references I'm finding for that phrase are closer to personal reflections of what the character symbolizes now.

Coin looks alright but I'm still a hard no and have been since they took my survey.

Interestingly, it does not appear the Mint and the Secretary of the Treasury heeded the recommendations of the CFA and the CCAC. Here is part of the CFA's recommendations: Quote: "In their support of the proposed pairing, the Commission members suggested consideration of minimizing or removing the reverse design's background clouds, expressing concern that these would obscure other elements of the composition, including the head of the young Clark Kent and the gold coin's inscription, 'United States of America'. They also noted that the juxtaposition of a vintage truck and a modern jet on the reverse may be confusing, and they suggested considering the use of a more contemporaneous propeller airplane consistent with the original comic. For the obverse, they commented that the artwork lacks a consistent character, with the barn shown in more realistic detail than the more stylized features characteristic of comic books, and they suggested that the barn could be stylized accordingly." All of those concerns are valid and should have been adopted. The modern jet is especially jarring, and I agree that the clouds should've been minimized on the obverse.

I have to disagree, but this is personal opinion and not right versus wrong. The old busted truck on a farm. A young man looking to the sky, seeing a plane and contemplating a different, more modern life? That I can relate to. But what do I know. I am easily distracted by shiny.

That's a good point I had not considered, and I'm willing to change my opinion about the jet. My concern was that the presence of a jet made the reverse a modern-day scene, so the truck seemed too old for a typical farmer in 2025 to be repairing. A beat-up truck from the 1980s or 1990s would be more fitting today. But seeing as the jetliner could be from as early as the 1960s, one could say the scene is occurring 40 or 50 years ago, so think it all fits together. However, I still think the clouds should've been scaled back, especially because it obscures Kent's face.

Quote: Here's an idea.....how about they issue a silver coin and charge their typical inflated price. Then to spur interest every 10,000th order gets a I think they tried that here years ago with copper medals and then after so many a silver one would be sold but in my 10 years or however long I have never seen a silver one come up for "auction"

Personally, I would not be offended if the U.S. Mint issued a Superman medal in .999 Kryptonite.

Now that the trailer for the new Superman film is out, I can see the resemblance between the medal's Man of Steel and the actor portraying Clark Kent. Makes sense. DC is promoting its latest installment in a decades-long franchise.

Just some thoughts,
I too was brought up watching the Superman television show. That show had a lasting affect on me.
I believe the Superman show had the Same lasting feelings and or memories for Many others too. The show showed the space craft burning on the side of an Old dusty roadway. The Farmer and His bride pulled up in their Old pick-up truck and hearing cries, The man went and retrieved a " child " wrapped in a fire proof blanket, With not a burn on the child.
The series is as Fresh in memory as when seen originally. My opinion is the Old truck is Imperative to the memory. I do not know the ages of Our commission members, However, I disagree with the idea that a modern plane, Clouds, a young man "pondering " while leaning up against a split rail fence Have any bearings on this .Where the ideas come from are Odd. I do not see how a Superman show being memorialized by the last mentioned topics. Maybe we can imagine the young man is wondering about the Future? That has/had nothing to do with the Superman shows I watched, Just my thoughts.... Great Cesare's Ghost !!!!
