GERMANY DEUTSCHES REICH 1 MARK 1903 G 90% silver Strong doubling on the 1 and 3 / RPD. Should I give it an acetone bath or leave it be? Let me know what you would do. Also is there a website I can go to to see if this coin has a RPD # or to see if it is a possible new discovery? Hi E V. This coin was my father's as well. Thanks, Frank B.

It does look like an RPD. I'd leave it as is. I don't think acetone soak is necessary.

Hi, E V. Thanks for the advice. I will leave it as is. I would say it is AU with BU details. Am I saying that right? Let me know and thanks, Frank B.

The coin is AU. BU means brilliant uncirculated with full lustre. This coin is not uncirculated and not brilliant. BU details would mean that the coin is BU, but there is some defect which would not qualify it as a BU coin that would be graded by major services getting a MS-6x for the grade. Details qualification is made due to a variety of reasons, such as scratches, environmental damage, graffiti, and others. I once owned France Napoleon III 5 francs which was BU details, because someone scratched graffiti collar on his neck (he was considered a traitor by many Frenchmen for betraying the republic and becoming the emperor)

I hope this answers your question....
