I'm new in the forum.
Need community help to identify 1868 copper UN centavo. As far as I know Mexico start mintage of this coins in 1869
Found it in the box with copper Mexican coins. Never seen copper contemporary counterfeits in 19s century.
Look like cast for me. But weight is almost correct - 7.5 gram.
Any help would be appreciated.

According to Numista no UN Centavo was minted in 1868.
As I stated in the post, 1869 is a start of that type.
Coin definitely look like cast, not like mint production.
A lot of Mexico coins was counterfeits, to full collectors or for circulation. But as far as I aware, all was silver, or mimic silver.
I can understand counterfeits of existing coin, but how to do it with not existing date? Below is normal un centavo 1894, weight - 7.97 gram..

to the CCF, B_G-I! I'm still scratching my head over your coin. It must be a counterfeit, but why did they date it 1868? Very strange.
This is my only example of that type, as sorry as it is. It weighs 7.63 g.

1868 exists... it's rare. Beat up, but looks genuine. A most fortunate find...

Did this surface out of Mexico?

Grate job!
Thanks for find it.
I couldn't.
Description from Stacks Bowers:
Lot Description
MEXICO. Mexico City. Centavo, 1868-Mo. NGC VG Details--Tooled.
KM-391.6. RARE.
NGC VG Details--Tooled.
But what is strange, that NGC does not show the coin (auction did not show the number), but GNC show up Mexico 1c 1864M following by 1869MO. And no 1868.
I'd try to contact them and ask the question.
Only mention of the 1868 1c I found in Utberg catalog "The coins of Mexico 1536-1962"
But it sound like:
"this series was made by several mints over period of years, but not every mint or every year' 1868-1879.
Photo is low quality but look like 1868.
No other catalog (as I'm aware ) does not mention 1868 KM 391.6
Coin was bought in coin shop in Pittsburgh Pa about 10 years ago in the box of junk Mexico copper coins. Attached is Catalog (1962) and pictures of the coin.
