Good Day, I am new to this forum, and I am requesting your help . I went through the pennies that my parents left us. I found a weird Dove penny that looks totally different from the other ones. Sorry I can't weigh the penny right now. What happen to that penny? Can someone figure it out? It will be of great help. Thank you all! CGF

To CCF! Might have been plated or it's toning.

Well, the '67's were not plated so it has to be some kind of chemical exposure with the bronze/copper. I don't know if the RCM was striking any zinc-based coins for another country then.

The blotchy toning indicates some kind of environmental damage. If I see a bronze coin that looks black, my initial assumption would be heat damage. A fire, or a hot oven. Or perhaps even just sitting next to a fireplace for a couple of winters.

PCGS has slabbed a 1967 penny struck in tin, but it looks just like a dime, take it to some gold or larger coin store that has an XRF, this will tell the whole story

Accurate weight needed. If you don't have a scale try your local postal outlet.
"Dipping" is not considered cleaning... -from PCGS website

Hello !
I weight the coin
3.28 g
not much difference... fROm the Dove original one I weight my 50 coins that I have and average them it gives 3.24 ich...
So environmental?
Another question for you all:
1- Since I aM pretty new to finally taking a good look at my coins, I sorted them by type, by year and US / CAD what is my next step? How do I take care of them carefully? My parents seem to have kept many duplicates of these coins and some are still in rolls from the bank...
What would you give me as best advice?
Washing or not washing my coins? I have decided not to... and you?
Thank you for guiding me.
Have a nice week-end!

You have a large coin show in Montreal starting today for 3 days, called Nuphilex some knowledgeable dealers are there either this coin is worth 1 cents or 5000.00 depends on it's composition, good luck !
