1877 NGC Slab Indian Head - Coin Community Forum

Jimbo48 Valued Member United States 130 Posts	Posted 11/16/2024 12:43 am I have a question and concern about this NGC 1877 Indian Head Slabbed Coin. When I got the coin today, I noticed the N's in ONE and CENT were bold. My understanding is that they should be weak N's except for proof 1877 coins. Is it possible that a proof coin made it into circulation and this is an example? Another question, is there any way to distinguish a proof die set coin? Finally, am I just seeing things and these are really weak N's? Report this Post to the Staff

I seem to recall that there was a circulated proof 1877 IHC recently played on GTP. Coinfrog Bedrock of the Community United States 94367 Posts	Posted 11/16/2024 8:25 pm Rick Snow has speculated that the reported mintage of the 1877 cent (852,000) seems inconsistent with only two reported obverse dies, yet no supportive evidence of a third business strike die (perhaps with a bold N) has ever been verified. I looked in Rick Snow's book and he estimated around 800 to 1000 proofs were minted in 1877. Report this Post to the Staff
