Hey all!

I'm just getting into seeing errors and varieties among the 2 cent pieces. My mom got me this from an antique store for Christmas (She's great). My question is regarding the marks near the 1 and the 8 of the date. Are these just Die Chips? Or just wear on the coin? The chips seem elevated so I'm thinking they are die chips but I'm not sure. They have triangle patterns as well.

Just overall wanting to know if this is normal wear and tear or if there is something deeper. Thanks!

@clem, this is outside of my area of expertise, but that looks a whole lot like a repunched date. See here for a comparison with yours:

Hopefully, someone will come on soon to confirm this or else gently correct me.

@Spence

Oh my goodness you are right, that looks VERY similar to this. It's obviously not in the best shape so it's very worn, but that would be awesome if my mom randomly stumbled upon this!
