Hi All,
New to the forum, and newish to coins.

We have inherited a box of coins, mainly from 1830-1930, mainly UK, but with some interesting ones.

The owner of the box was from Birmingham, uk, descended from adoptive parents in the same area.

So, on to the important question:
A number of the coins are 'Heaton Mint' coins.
e.g. a startlingly good Kwang Tung dollar, exactly the same as this
https://www.pcgs.com/auctionprices/...700726984728
but in better condition.
Also an 'H' marked Canada cent (research indicates Heaton).

Is it possible coins leaked out of Heaton into local peoples hands?
Does anyone have one of the books about the Heaton Mint history - and if so, do they contain any lists of employees?

Obviously the Chinese coin's value will be wildly affected by provenance. I can pretty much guarantee that it's not been acquired since ~1967, as I knew the person who was in possession of the box since that time. But proving it may be more difficult.

Any thoughts on Heaton appreciated...

@btsimonh from across the pond. I have many Canadian & colonial "H" (Heaton Mint) coins in my collection.
Here is something on the mint: https://www.coinsandcanada.com/coin...-mint&id=486

Coins minted by Heaton were mixed in with the coins produced by other mints, so they could be found anywhere where the coins circulated.

Look, too, at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Birmingham_Mint

For list of employees, contact the archives for Birmingham City Council.

I have a copy of the book by Sweeny mentioned above. It does not have any lists of employees.

There is a lot of information on the coins and tokens they minted.
