Another Coin from a collection of large cents that I purchased last fall. I believe this is a wide 9/8?
Note the T and I in Gratia on the obverse. The top serifs are partially missing on the T and almost completely missing on the I. I am thinking that this is a Struck Through Grease issue?

Yes, it's a 9/8. It's not Struck Through Grease. They used the 1858 dies until they almost broke apart before the 1859's were ready. Those are broken serifs. If you can get your hands on one of Rob Turners fist 2 books, you'll find it in there with a Turner number. I've loaned mine to someone, so I can't look it up for you.

Interesting.I don't have any of Rob Turner's books. Are the first two books still in print? I know that one of his books is available on the RCNA website, but I assume that this is not the one that you are referring to.
Thank you for enlightening me regarding the broken serifs. I never knew.

ALL of Rob's books are available from the RCNA. He donated them all to the RCNA so they could make money from them. The early ones were available right from Rob, but now the RCNA. Here was his old site for the books: https://www.victoriancent.com/books.html

or just go to https://www.victoriancent.com for his website. You should get lots of use out of it.

Actually, only the last two are available from the RCNA. Message me if interested in the others.

Sorry about the incorrect info. I thought that you had gotten rid of all the books and the storage/mailing. Us old guys sometimes forget.

No, I still own and sell the first four books. The two softcovers are very close to "out of print." The two hard covers have about two dozen each to go. I do not intend to reprint any of them.
