As I have mentioned I've started collecting again after lengthy absence. As I'm reorienting myself to the different Ike's, in this case the proofs, I find myself trying to remember packaging for the various proofs. I know that one of them was in, what I remember, as being the "brown" container. I know there's a silver proof in the proof sets.
So I need help remembering the different packaging and what they hold?
Thanks,
Chris

All proof Ikes were minted in San Francisco and have the S mint mark.
The 1971 to 1974 brown box Ikes were single 40% silver proof Ikes housed in a plastic lens similar to the proof sets.
From 1973 to 1978, copper-nickel clad proof Ikes were included in the annual six coin proof set. No 1975 dated Ikes were minted. The 1975 proof sets contained a 1976 Variety 1 reverse Ike, the 1976 sets had the Variety 2.
The 1976 40% silver proof Ikes was sold in a three coin set with the half dollar and quarter. These are the only sets than had a 40% silver proof Ike. All 1976 40% silver Ikes have the Variety 1 reverse.

jbuck thanks for the reply, clears up a bunch. But there's still a bit of fog. Is there a 71 and 72 S silver clad proof? My reason for asking is one thing I was looking at is the Eisenhower dollar check list (from Littleton) and it lists a 71 and 72 clad proof, an that has me confused. I don't seem to remember that. And another thing that confusing is for 73 they list a S Silver proof, S Sliver clad and S silver proof. I seem to remember the "Blue Ike" playing into that. Thanks for helping me figure this out.

Quote: Is there a 71 and 72 S silver clad proof? No. The 1971 and 1972 proof sets were five coin sets, no dollars were included. Quote:My reason for asking is one thing I was looking at is the Eisenhower dollar check list (from Littleton) and it lists a 71 and 72 clad proof, an that has me confused. That list has two errors. No clad proof Ikes were made those years. Quote: And another thing that confusing is for 73 they list a S Silver proof, S Sliver clad and S silver proof. I seem to remember the "Blue Ike" playing into that. All 40% silver proof Ikes are clad—Cladding is 80% Silver, 20% Copper and core is 79% Copper, 21% Silver. The blue Ikes are in a blue envelope. They are uncirculated 40% silver Ikes. Like the brown box Ikes, they were issued 1971 to 1974. There is also an uncirculated three coin set for 1976. All minted in San Francisco. That clears up so much. So my thinking is for 1971 for example there is P,D, S (Sliver, aka blue Ike) and S Proof (Brown) . Am I close to the right track?
You know when I was collecting 20 years ago I thought I had it figured out, I was so wrong!!! Which is why I really apricate this site!

If you want to see a decent list: Eisenhower dollars. Unfortunately, it omits the two varieties for 1976. You can click on the link in my signature if you want to tour my set.
