Counterfeit, not necessary to take to local guy.

Well guys- my local, reputable dealer was 80% convinced it is not authentic- but also stated if it is fake its a darn decent one. And considering the rotational die error could be justification for other errors (maybe) he was 50/50 in thinking I should take the loss and send it in as there is little to no info with the rotated die error on a 31s. (another indicator of a fake) if its to good to be true it... appreciate you guys.

Is your guy younger or something? Any dealer worth their salt should be an expert on all key date coins or they will learn some hard lessons. He should be 100% sure it's fake after an in-hand inspection.

I tried searching the forum but I can't find the threads posted about these particular fakes. I know there's at least 2 threads with pictures that look dead-on like yours. One of them has some reverse die cracks I don't see on yours but they probably replaced that die.

The Chinese are getting more sophisticated and artificially aging their fakes. One of the give aways is the tops of all of the devices are still usually copper.

I have been friends with a dealer who got burned on this 1909 SVDB. It was his "I learned trophy" that he always left out in plain view. I always asked to buy it - for like 15 years and he'd never sell it to me (being his dummy award). Well, the day finally came when I made a ridiculous offer so that I can educate others:
