For this week's installment of "Philately Friday," we turn to Bermuda and its transition from the Pounds/Shillings/Pence monetary system to the Decimal system.

In 1995, Bermuda issued a series of commemorative stamps to mark the 25th Anniversary of its adoption of a decimal currency system (1970). Each of the stamps features one of Bermuda's first issue of decimal coins, along with a pair of commemorative postage stamps from the "Flower" series issued at the time. The 50-cent coin is depicted as part of the cover's cachet, along with a 20-cent and 30-cent stamp vs. a postage stamp.

The Official FDC presented features four stamps postmarked in Hamilton, Bermuda on February 6, 1995; Bermuda switched to decimal currency on February 6, 1970. Hamilton is the capital of Bermuda.

I've also included a 1970 set of Bermuda's new, base metal circulation coins. Sets were sold to collectors/souvenir buyers in specially-packaged five-coin commemorative sets.

Very nice, commems! Flowers and coins - what's not to like?
