I didn't say crypto, which would be illegal and would require a constitutional amendment to introduce as currency. Til then it can only be a commodity. By "digital" I just meant credit cards and such.
But even though I didn't put a smiley, I was 100% joking.

They could eliminate all the subsidiary coinage except the dime. It is small enough to have a bunch and not weigh down a pocket.
Reduce the size and weight of the dollar coin to roughly that of a nickel and perhaps later create a $5 coin roughly the size of a quarter.
Eliminate the $1, $2 notes and later the $5 note as the new coins takeover.

I edited my post, I meant to say to eliminate the $1, 2 and later the $5 notes as coinage replaces them.

Now that the meaning is more clear, I'm all on board for eliminating bills and going with coins. But I'd like to see them in Au and Ag as they "should" be. How big would the $1, $5, $10, $20 be in Ag, and the $50, $100 be in Au? Wow, what a Renaissance that would be.

imho, I'd like to keep the cent and five cent coins. The Federal Reserve only orders new coins from the mint, because that's how it has always been! If the fed reserve and mint can find a way to re-circulate all the billions of cents out there, there wouldn't need to order billions of new ones each year. I would hope that the heads at the mint would realize it would be a great way to get new collectors by still producing a much smaller amount of pennies and perhaps nickels each year making them more of a collectible. Just don't make them a subscription roll-based item. The women's circ. "S' mint quarters are like this. only a small amount made, but all in rolls, so they will never be rare or hard to find.

While this would be awesome the only way this could work is for a dime-size $2 coin made of silver now. A more radical proposal (which I have suggested in the past) would be to to revalue the coinage by a factor of 10, that would make a silver coin about the size of the current dime be worth about 20 or 25 "new cents". None of this would ever happen of course, what is more likely is that coins will eventually not be worth using as inflation keeps going and electronic payments take over, even for small purchases. I was at the quicky mart the other day and a little kid (10 or 12 years old) bought a Snickers Bar with a debit card, his buddy bought a bottle of water with ApplePay on his phone.
