I have new mint rolls of these 1964 Canadian 1 cents and a few coins are coming up with these lines on only the Queen. The strange thing is there in different directions. You would think it would be consistent in 1 direction same strike every time. I know there are a few of you here that went through mint bags of the 1964s. This just baffles me!!

I always called that an abraided die but can't explain why the lines go in more than one direction. Nice find.

Looks very suspiciously like the 1962 Guitar and Harp variety cents; probably from the same style of work from the Canadian mint that EaV alluded to. And I don't doubt that there are similar 1960s era cents that have similar features still out there.

If you look close at pictures 2 and 3 there is a crack at the back of the neck telling us maybe they were repairing that section of the die in my opinion. That's a good clue.

Going to study this a little closer. If you look at this picture close there is a crack at the back of the neck, theres a die chip at the throat and a repair done were the strong harp lines are. I think these are a damaged die - repaired die sequential strikes.

Personally I believe it to be PMD. Abrasion lines caused by the pennies passing over or under something prior to being rolled.
