guess I'll be hunting Jefferson nickles, FDR dimes and Washington quarters. Thanks Donald.

It's about time! Just because the Mint may no longer make the Lincoln Cent anymore what makes you think you won't be able to get rolls or boxes of cents from the banks? There are just too many in circulation to instantly "dry up".

For now the elimination of the one cent coin makes sense from a savings standpoint since it costs 3.07 cents to make each one. However, be advised that the nickel may be next since it costs 11.5 cents to produce each nickel. Dimes, quarters and halves cost less than face value to produce. Perhaps we will see the cent resurrected in another alloy or the nickel replaced with a zinc version.

Aluminum or steel would make more sense, more towards the latter option. I feel like you can't go a different color route with them, and nickels are pretty weighty little guys, maybe it's just a me thing, but when they do change them out, I kinda want them to be around the same size/weight parameters. To be determined of course but we'll see.

Goodbye little Linc' nothing lasts forever.

Even if the material was provided for free it would still cost more that a penny is worth to manufacture it, then even more to distribute and process the finished coins.

Getting rid of the penny is easy, the nickel will be harder as it is needed to make change for the quarter. If they eliminate the nickel AND quarter then reduce the size of the half dollar to something between that of the current nickel and quarter then we should be all set.

As for designs, take the remaining coins and have half the dimes with FDR and half with Lincoln. For the half make half with Kennedy and half with Jefferson. Make the Dollar Coin Washington. Then they can eliminate the paper dollar as well.

Has President Trump asked to end cent production for ever or just for the rest of this year? I haven't heard for sure one way or another. Sounds like in perpetuity.

This is excellent news for us taxpayers! It baffles me why a small amount of people are for government waste? Time to cut the fat and get our country out of debt.

There is nothing about the existence of a 1 cent coin that makes sense. Even alternative metals/plastic/etc. would be an exercise in futility and waste.

Inflation ate the cent decades ago, they serve no practical purpose in 2025, most people don't even want them back in change. In the past 20 years they've been more of an annoyance than useful (except to collectors). This is long overdue, thank you Mr. Trump!
