I have a collection of French coins and since there's really no albums for them, I'm just curious how you guys organize your foreign collections.

That is why I like to keep the bulk of my collection in 2x2's on those 20 pocket binder pages. They can be easily re-arranged when desired.

I have mine in binders by country and arranged in order of increasing KM #.

My nicer French coins go in 2x2s are sorted:
- first by regime. France has had a succession of different regimes, perhaps more so than any other country in the past 250 years or so. You've got: old Monarchy, First Republic, First Empire, Monarchy restored, Second Republic, Second Empire, Third Republic, Vichy fascist puppet state, Allied Liberation, Fourth Republic, Fifth Republic, and finally French euro coins.
- Within each regime, coins are sorted by denomination, then date, then mintmark if applicable.

They go into photographic slide album pages, in the "F" album along with all the other countries starting with "F" (but France is more than half of my total F contribution).

My non-US and and non-Canadian coins are sorted by year up through 1899 and then by country starting in 1900. Virtually 100% of these coins are in 2x2s which I then put into labelled boxes (those red ones that player piano music used to come in a thousand years ago).

For years my odd ball stuff in 2x2s have been kept in Dansco albums with 12-pocket pages. Recently I have been moving them out of 2x2s and into Dansco pages with holes sized for the coins.

I used to use 2x2s but then I dicovered CAPS and have never looked back

I know it's more expensive per coin but I spend more time looking at my collection since I changed over to CAPS

Thanks everyone!

I bought a binder with slip case and some 2x2 pages. Looks like for now, I'll go with 2x2s. It's unfortunate that my hand writing is terrible. That's what I miss about preprinted albums.

Anyone have any tips on labeling 2x2s?

I have some CAPS albums but they are a little pricey for circulated non-valuable coins. They are also huge.

Thanks

I use a fine point black Sharpie or equivalent.
