I bought this while hunting for 1955-D/S specimens. I thought it might be an OMM or an RPM due to the splits on the top serif of D. Under magnification, it's obvious that a fringe of Die Deterioration extends left from the entire back edge of the D. I am almost ready to put this one in the album or sell pile, but I wanted to ask: should I be more interested in that metal inside the D loop?

I'm thinking that it's just Die Deterioration.

Leaning toward Die Deterioration. Would be cool to examine the coin in-hand.

I'm just not convinced. I think ebay would enthusiastically greet a rare 1955-D/D/D/D/D/D/S nickel! Maybe I should get it graded?

I do think I will just tuck that away with a note to re-examine the D loop when I get a proper coin scope. 97% confident that it's DDD, thanks for the help, guys. =)
