Hi all,
I'm really new to this and I have a question about mint sets. My father worked for bankers trust and Barclays Bank. He recently passed away and I've found a dozen or so mint sets. Most of the coins look beautiful, only the Ike dollar blue envelope coins didn't seem to be well sealed, so there is some coloring.

Here is a list. Are these worth getting graded?

4 of the Eisenhower 1971 s Dollars. With the blue token. These have the envelopes and the card that explains the set.

2 of the bicentennial 3 coin set , stamp S. One dollar, half dollar, and quarter.

2 1972D 5 coin set with the white token , half dollar, quarter, nickel, dime, penny

2 1972 6 coin set, 2 Pennys, half dollar, dime, nickel.

1 1974D 6 coin set - dollar, half dollar, quarter, dime, nickel, penny.

1 1974 7 coin set - dollar, half dollar, quarter, dime, nickel, and 2 pennys.

All of these coins are still in the original plastic, so I didn't bother to try to add a picture.

I know my father is the original owner. I'm not sure if I want to hold onto them or not. What would you all suggest as to having them graded? Or even storage. I'm not sure the current packaging is where they should stay. They are in their original plastic, some have envelopes, the rest were separated by a card.

Open to all suggestions.

Thank you for commenting!

All of these "Modern" mint sets have a nominal value. Your sentimental value is more significant. I would just keep them and pull them out occasionally to remember dear old dad. Perhaps mementos for the grandchildren.

to CCF.
Some folks out there collect OGP sets (Original Government Packaging) Some are harder to get than others, so a bit of homework is needed before breaking them open.
On the other hand depending on the condition of the individual coins If they would get a very high grade (Like PF 67, 68, 69, or in very rare cases a PF 70 (the highest grade you can get) then these and only the best could be sent in for grading.
When getting a coin graded - it is a crap shoot - the slightest imperfection can kill a coins quality.

Then on the other hand a keepsake also holds a great personal value you cannot replace.

If that is the 3 coin business strike set from 1976-S, those are 40% silver coins. People like those sets, especially the quarter. The business strikes would look like circulating coins, not mirrored like a proof, and have a softer silver glow than cupronickel.

Brandmeister, you called them. They don't look really pretty in the sense you would think, being mint coins. I tried to take a few pics through the plastic - yeah, not sure how that goes. I can see some nicks on these coins. very few.

I just feel I 'm doing more harm then good by keeping these coins in this plastic.

Thanks for the comment!

It would appear the the quarter has 'milked' over, which is not that pleasing to collectors (in my opinion). But there are folks out there like the toning

These are very common sets, you can check what they're selling for on ebay. Normally, there will be no coins in them worth the expense of sending to a TPG.

Right. Not for grading, but people really like that particular silver set. It has around $18 melt value, and collectors will pay over that amount on ebay.

Most of those sets I have also gotten. I found most of the sets with Eisenhower dollars and other coins in them were terrible in my sets. I never found good ones in those sets. Most were beaten up some how. A lot of older coins in the mint sets too were very rough in the plastic. If your father had them I would just set them aside. These sets carry memories not money. All the coins my father had I've saved all these years. They are special to me. Don't worry you will make the right choice.
