New to this! Trying to know what I'm looking at. Does this look like rim damage or some sort of error / die break, etc.?

My guess is PMD of some sort.

Snailking1 have you heard of BAR nickels, although I don't believe this is one but if you're searching through Jeff. nickels you should be aware and on the look out for them. Also if you don't know the site, check out Varietyvista.com

I couldn't tell if it was a PMD (after I looked to see what that meant!!)
Will look up BAR nickels. Have no idea what they are! This is literally my first foray into learning what I'm looking at.

It's not a bar nickel. I've seen that build-up on nickels before just can't remember what it was said to be.
