We had a guest speaker this past week at one of the coin clubs I'm a member of that I'd like to share. Dr. David Montague spoke about his mother, Raye Montague, who is featured on the 2025 American Innovation Dollar for Arkansas. He gave an overview of her fascinating life and career as a Naval engineer. She'd begun her career as a clerk typist and went to night school to learn computer programming and became a computer systems analyst at the Naval Ship Engineering Center. She later had leadership rolls in various design, CAD and Information Systems programs for the Navy.

She's honored on the American Innovations dollar as being the first person to draft the design of a U.S. Naval ship by computer.

I have a book on her story, but haven't yet read it. If interested, the title is "Overnight Code: The Life of Raye Montague, the Woman Who Revolutionized Naval Engineering".

Very nice, Hokie! That must have been a very interesting and entertaining presentation.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

That's interesting. My career included a couple decades of computer programming. Many unsung heroes of military and computer technology and the advancements in space flight are women.
