I mean if you are celebrating the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, you need to recall that the Articles of Confederation were not approved by the Continental Congress until 1777
Quote:
The Articles of Confederation were adopted by the Continental Congress on November 15, 1777. This document served as the United States' first constitution. It was in force from March 1, 1781, until 1789 when the present-day Constitution went into effect.

Quote:
Over a period of 15 years, from 1774 to 1789, the Continental Congress underwent a profound evolution. Starting out as a temporary group that met to address American colonists' issues with British rule, it morphed into the de facto government of the 13 colonies, and ultimately into an official governing body of the United States.

Quote:
The Congress faced the task of conducting a war already in progress. Fighting had begun with the Battle of Lexington and Concord on April 19, and Congress needed to create an official army out of the untrained assemblage of militia laying siege on Boston.
