Here's my new attempt I made this morning. I call it the Spock quarter. I took several suggestions. I hot glued it to a board, but it popped off a lot. I couldn't get a nickel to stay on long enough. I didn't use a dremel this time. I sharpened a flathead screwdriver and tapped on it with a hammer. I made the ears pointy, the neck skinnier, and the hair trimmed. The eyebrows didn't work out. It's not ideal, but it's an improvement.

To make a "Hobo Nickel" one must start with at least a nickel.

It's a spock quarter; big difference.

Or find a nearby railroad track.
This is not art; it is low grade coin mutilation.
Good ol' TJ be rolling in his resting place,
wondering how many rolls it will take to get this right.

Very interesting, triggersmob. I used to have an authentic hobo nickel, but it vanished sometime in the last 30 years.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures
