This is so cool -- for me, anyway!

I have this 1862 silver trime:

Notice the neat die clash on the reverse between the "i"s of "III".

Now, when I browse the PCGS site, I found this one:
https://www.pcgs.com/coinfacts/coin.../images/3678

Here's a direct link to the hi-res images:

Looks like my 1862 trime was struck suing the same reverse die as the 1860 coin! However, it looks like the clash is somehow rotated 180 degrees?

[EDIT: Scrolling down the PCGS images list, it looks like there are actually several with the same die clash, some oriented the same as mine, others 180 deg. rotated. ]

I don't think you can make this conclusion just based on a die clash. Any series shows repeated die clashes. The reverse on the 1860 has a clear die crack traveling from both sides of the olive branch, and into the large C in the design.

Your coin, produced two years later, does not show that die crack. Additionally, the 1860 is a late die state showing clear signs of deterioration while your coin is a crisp early die state. Not the same reverse die used on both coins in my opinion.
Suffering from bust half fever.

A decent trime with strong details and a nice clash to boot. Nice to see a well struck example of a usually weakly struck series.

What you actually have is the 1862/1 overdate, and another die marker is the die crack from the 1 in the date to the star. The die clash also exists on this particular overdate.

@mrwhatisit -- Thak you! Wow, I had no idea!

I'm going to get out my better camera and see if I can get good close-ups of this. I looked at the PCGS site for 1862/1 images, but their detail close-up wouldn't load for some reason.

Is there another online reference which I could consult? I only have two or three trimes and never bought a special book about them.

I do have the Walter Breen reference, and he has a close-up of the date. It looks like there is also doubling inside the "8" which I can see in my first pictures. However, I cannot make out the shadow of the "1" to the left of the "2" without better magnification.

Looking again at some PCGS images of coins classified as regular 1862 strikes, it looks like some of these might also actually be unrecognized overdates. That makes me feel a little better about not having noticed it.

In the meantime, I cropped out the detail around the date from one of the coins on the PCGS site -- hope I won't get in trouble for doing this. After all, this is for a scholarly endeavor which implies fair use of copyrighted material:

Here, the die crack from the rim through the "1" to the star is prominent, but often it is not visible on other coins.

Are there any additional diagnostics?

Got out my trusty Nikon D60 with macro lens, took more pictures, and -- there it is, die crack and ghost of the "1" right at the left of the "2":

@mrwhatisit: Now you have to reveal to us HOW you were able to spot this from my very inadequate (IMHO) pictures in my first post! At 73, my eyesight isn't what it used to be (and these trimes are SO small...)

Thanks again very much to everyone!

@MisterT: Having just taken a good look at your avatar -- I just posted a new thread about a 50 cent 1833 capped bust which, if you have time, I'd like to know what you think about it!

Here's the link:
