I'd say MS-62, mostly due to the impaired luster and tiny hits on the obverse.

I'll say MS-62 as well.

Obvious luster loss in the obverse fields suggests AU-58 would be the highest possible grade. However, lots of early gold coins with similar luster quality get into MS slabs. Eye appeal is very good. I'd agree that NGC MS-62 is likely. It's a lovely coin regardless. The reverse is especially nice.

Looks AU55 to me. If it CAC'd then probably AU58. As Jaobler noted these are often found in low MS holders but I'd be surprised if it CAC Green stickered as Mint State.

Congratulations on your result! That is an excellent grade on what looks like a slider and $3 gold pieces are tough to grade. Really nice piece!
That's not NGC, it's a CACG holder. They are separate from CAC and a grading company with their own slabs. The green oval is not a CAC sticker but rather green printed on the label inside the slab. Kind of a technicality because CACG has the strictest grading in the business imo.

Thanks @BH1964. I understand this is a CACG holder--I had it crossed from an NGC holder with the green bean to this one (the NGC one was in bad condition--and I can fit two CACG holders on the edges of my PCGS box).
To be clear, you see this coin as overgraded, right? Do you see it as an AU(58) that mistakenly got in to an MS(61) holder?

Quote: To be clear, you see this coin as overgraded, right? Do you see it as an AU(58) that mistakenly got in to an MS(61) holder? Absolutely not. NGC, CAC & CACG all viewed it in-hand and said 61. That's more than adequate assurance you have an MS piece. G$3 pieces are difficult to grade (even more so from images) because strike weakness is so prevalent on this series. Holding the coin in-hand and rotating it under good lighting will reveal luster breaks vs strike weakness vs wear. Top TPG aren't going to miss it three times. It's fully Mint State.

Thanks @BH1964 for your clarification and thanks to everyone else for your time, opinions, and discussions. I am slowly building my US gold type set.

The reverse is very pleasing in color and luster. Is this common in such a coin ? Thank you.
