Please take a look at this 1993 penny with partial copper plating missing on reverse. Is this considered an error? Thanks

I'm not an expert on these, but it could of been worn off somehow.

I'm leaning towards a yes on this one.

Well it is not worn off in my opinion. if it was worn just the highest points would shoe the zinc core, In this case, all of the center has the same zinc color (even into the tight corners of the bays. then look at column one - it still has a copper plating on it, but the lowest par of the cent on either side of this column 1 is zinc.

This is fairly common, but I know not of what it is caused by.

Solid state diffusion. Mike Diamond had a write up on it about my coins in Coin World.

I have a similar zinc penny found in a BU roll and has same plating issue, so I doubt is wear.. Maybe some sort of alloy mix or plating error. I will try finding my coin and post it on this thread to compare.

The way electroplating works, "incomplete plating" looks more like the one in Errorhunter1's link, and not like the OP's coin.

I believe mild heat will do this. Not hot enough to melt the copper or zinc, but just hot enough for the copper to start to dissolve into the zinc. Also a low-oxygen environment or reducing flame, so the coin does not blacken or burn.

A similar penny is graded and confirmed please check link below:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/135626518342

Again, I have one that looks better than the one graded on the link and was found in a BU roll. It is a thing guys.

Hope that helps.

I just posted a coin that is graded and that is the same exact error the OP is showing, not some lengthy argument of what it can be or what is not, showing a coin that does not look like the one provided by the OP.

The coin is an error and is worth money, even NGC is grading it that way. That's all I mean to show.

We are all trying to help, and my opinion counts, not just Mike diamonds with a link to Amazon that doesn't work.

Regards,
EH1
