Sorry my original message had such terrible quality photos. They went from barely being over limit to being 1% of the limit... Wanted to get some of the community to weigh in on whether they think this is a real or counterfeit 55 DDO. I don't see any of the major indicators that scream counterfeit with it, but I'm a bit hesitant to get excited about it. I do believe it has been cleaned at some point along the way, but that doesn't bother me as much as making sure it's legitimate.

Can you give us a clear super close up of that area around the T of "CENT" so we can see if it has the correct die marker? And I don't know if is just the lighting but this coin appears to have a thin plating of copper which has washed off exposing some type of base metal.

Looks fake to me - Lincoln's bow tie, jacket. are not doubled.+ the nose and mouth should also be doubled.

I'd like to see sharper photos, too. I do see doubling on the eyelid and lips. Some of the doubling on the coat was abraded in Stage B, and I'm seeing what could be die polishing in the Stage B areas on the obverse and reverse. I don't think I've seen more than a couple Stage B coins over the years, so it's possible that this one is genuine, but Stage B. I'll reserve judgment until I see better photos.

I agree that sharper images would help. If it has the die markers below the left arm of the T in CENT, then it's legit, 100% fake if it does not show the die marks. There are some very convincing, good-looking counterfeits.

Question: are the markers under the T visible only on early die state? They look like they could easily be worn off from circulation, or in later die states... I also do see the nose and mouth doubling (OP image enlarged):

Doubling on the Tie, lips, nose, and eye are there - the counterfeits I've seen usually never take the time to copy those.

I'm leaning towards counterfeit. To me, it Lincoln's nose appears slightly pointed. It caught my attention right away, and while slight, it's very bothersome to me. I've compared it to several 1955 coins, both the DD and normal strikes, it still looks odd to me.

Quote: Question: are the markers under the T visible only on early die state? The twin die scratches under the "T" should still be visible even after the heavy Stage B polishing. That's a key marker that was not abraded by the second heavy die polishing in Stage B. The more I look at this coin, the more I'm just not sure. It appears to have been struck in collar. It certainly looks like it has some die polishing marks, and most cast counterfeits won't. But the surface conditions do not look natural and really don't look like polishing. The details seem too sharp for a transfer die counterfeit, but it could be spark erosion.
