I was looking on ebay for uncirculated 1943 Steel Cents to add to my collection but I don't trust that they were not reprocessed since you can't see the edges. I'm also not qualified to tell the difference especially when looking at uncirculated examples. So I was thinking of trying to source graded coins if I can get them at a decent price and then break them out of the holder to add to my album. They would be going into airtites. The few graded coins I have are all PCGS so if I can find ones in NGC or ANACS I wouldn't be tempted to keep them in the case Are their any other grading companies I could look for and which ones to stay away from. The grading can vary since I will be looking at price and how the coin visually looks as long as it's uncirculated.

I know I'll end up paying more, but it's more for peace of mind it wasn't altered. Thoughts/Opinions?

This is what I was looking at before, not ebay but this was one I was considering. Just don't know if it was altered or not.

Agree--look for legit examples at coin shops or coin shows.

I agree with PlumCrazy and ijn - pick one up at your LCS or a coin show. These are not rare so it makes no sense to overpay for an album coin.

Perhaps you're overthinking this.

Not sure what uncirculated grade you're looking for, but there's plenty of slabbed MS63 1943 cents on ebay, graded by legitimate services, in the low US$20 range. A reprocessed coin would be rejected for certification.

Just buy the one that calls to you, and move on to the next acquisition.

Well, for what's it worth, the coin up in the image does not appear to be re-processed.

Looks fine to me. Looks like an original unprocessed 1943 D.

Reprocessed 1943s look like someone poured a dollop of liquid mercury on them and then froze it in place, leaving a nebulous mirrored shine with no fine details.
