I have been researching plating issues on Copper Plated Zinc Cents.

The information I have found has been both interesting and challenging. My research has resulted in some papers I prepared to organize the information in a way that I can understand.

Unfortunately, I have only scratched the surface! It seems that I continue to find significant related aspects that I may yet include in future revisions.

I am sharing one of those papers here in .pdf format
.

In 1983? 1984? the mint had Jarden change the core to include a tiny bit of copper so the plating adheres better (97.5% Zinc 2.5% Copper IIRC). Did you find a measurable difference between the two?

I recall a general reference to the addition of copper to the zinc alloy but do not recall a date being mentioned. (Will double check)

I have found no measurable differences.

Thanks Pete, that was a very interesting read. Now I can understand the anomalies on some of my coins.

Very interesting, especially for those of us that like the Lincoln Cent series.
Lots of food for thought.

Thank you for your time and the extra effort you take to explain the technical aspects (yeah, there are a "few") of your research on a layman's level. It helps me get a grasp on parts of it.
(Here's a related realization; I wish my mental elasticity would "bounce" back better when I need to recall information.)

UNDERSTOOD! I am 84 and find this kind of research helps somewhat in fighting off dementia, but I notice my mental acuity diminishing along with the rest of me anyway! (I also understood your veiled reference to plastic/elastic!! )

Some of the research papers I read were so complex and technical that the challenge was overwhelming in places. You should see my digital library for this and the papers I posted earlier!

Those papers are located here:

Thanks Pete! So far I've only given this a quick, partial read, but I've already learned the answers to a few questions I've had about plating. I'm looking forward to giving this the attention it deserves.
