Well, it hasn't happened yet, but I think a numismatic first will happen farily soon: the first American sovereign to issue coins in his name while still alive.

Kind of mind bending if you ask me. Even regardless of the numismatic angle.

Leo XIV is an American citizen.

Who rules a nation.

Which issues coins with an image of its sovereign.

Why? Popes have struck coins since the 8th century

I am looking forward to it. I will have to acquire some examples.

As I mentioned in the other topic, he is not just an American Pope, he is a a Chicago Pope! He was raised in Dolton, just a few miles from where I was born. I have to wonder if any of my extended family has ever rubbed elbows with him in the past.

Check for haloes and you will have your answer

BTW, I hear he is a Sox fan. (Miracles welcome!)

Yeah, I read that from an interview with his brother. I guess no one is perfect, not even a Pope. But some of those previously mentioned family members will be pleased.

When the Popes are striking the coins do they wear their robes and the Papal Tiara or do they have special Pope coin striking clothes

That's what I mean as "funny"
