I took the advice from this forum and requested "customer-rolled" pennies at my local bank. No finds, as expected, and nothing really to note except the halfway coins between shiny new and dull brown. I've probably seen this thousands of times over the years but never really stopped to think about it.

OK, that's enough thinking, on to the next roll.

I've had a variety of experiences with both customer and commercially-wrapped rolls over several decades of roll searching.

Patience is key.... if you pursue your endeavor long enough, it is inevitable you will find something.

I have found it useful to remind myself often that coin roll hunting is a numbers game. It can be really tiresome if you get two bad batches in a row.

It happens - sometime the "customer rolled" coins have been rolled by another CRH'r. I always put a mark on the rolls I search with a black sharpie so I know if the tellers have given me back rolls that I have already searched.

I also mark the searched rolls. I've never had one returned to me, but I dump my nickels at a completely different bank.

Sometimes CWR are great, other times they're awful...

A couple of weeks ago I got 1,000 CWR from one of my banks... the two bundles of 500 coins had distinctly different wrapping. One bundle had 18 wheaties, including an AU 1955-S... the other one had only one wheatie...

The key is perseverance... the more you search, the more likely you're going to run into a collection dump or "better" coins. And the same holds true of MWR - found an XF-45 1909 VDB amongst a group of MWR I bought that same day!
CRH Nickeloholic. 1,600,000 nickels searched in eight years! Have found FOUR complete Jefferson sets!
