General Question About Oddity On Buffalos

Buffalo soldat Valued Member New Zealand 65 Posts	Posted 05/16/2025 09:35 am I'm pretty sure I've found at least one other date with what looks like an inner halo effect just inside the rim on a Buffalo like this one, so it seems it's more to do with process or planchet thickness than the dies. To me, this looks most like damage rather than a planchet defect or die error. It is a common feature of worn dies, due to prolonged mechanical stress around the rim of the coin. You can follow the highlighted link to read the official CCF article on a Ridge Ring. Philadelphia made the dies for all the mints, and had the advantage of being able to make additional dies on site as they needed them. Report this Post to the Staff
