Hi all,

I have posted this on another forum so apologies if you have already seen it.

Basically I am relatively new to this and to date have purchased most of my monarchs of the UK coins via VCoin or Auctions - with a few English rulers still to get I have been tempted to turn to ebay - has anyone got any tips#65279; #65279;when buying from ebay - or can recommend and sellers, thank you.#65279;

I'll let others do the recommending, but I can tell you that in my many years of buying and selling all sorts or items on ebay (member since 1999), I have learned that to ensure your own, best possible customer satisfaction do not be shy at all about asking questions of sellers. If you have the slightest doubt about a response you get (or if you don't get a response at all, of course), move on. That said, my own experience on ebay has been VERY rewarding, as I suspect yours will be too. Good Luck and Happy Hunting!

1) Focus on sellers that have, if not all, at least the vast majority positive reviews.
2) Check ebay sold prices for coins you are looking for, so you know around how much is a reasonable price to pay.
3) As the previous poster said, ask questions if unsure about something in the seller's listing. For example maybe you need a better photo or are wondering if they combine shipping.

to the CCF, SiHawks! When it comes to ebay, assume nothing and doubt everything.

It depends on what you need for your monarch set. Fakes abound for hammereds, and most sellers wouldn't know a contemporary counterfeit of a Charles II halfcrown from a real issue.

My best advice is knowledge & experience with the series. If you're looking for, e.g., a William I, you should have extensive references (primary & auction) & be able to tell if something looks suspicious; if not, you should stick to auction houses.
