I've decided to start a set of Walking Liberty half dollars, and as usual I want to buy the book before the coin. After searching through previous threads, I picked up a copy of Bruce Fox's The Complete Guide to Walking Liberty half Dollars on ebay for about $50 with tax and shipping. Any other suggestions or recommendations for reference books about the series?

Looks like that a few years old, which is fine. I don't have any specific suggestions, but almost certainly there will be something more recent and up to date worth having. It's a beautiful series of coins. Enjoy!!

@coll, from this thread ten years ago, Fox's book seemed to be the best one to buy for this series:

Thanks, Spence! That was the thread that ultimately swayed me to find Fox's book. I'm hoping there's been more recent scholarship, or maybe revised opinions about Bowers' book. At this point I'm leaning toward either finding a copy of Bowers' book or getting the Mega Red Book 6th Edition that focuses on half dollars.

Always a sound approach!

You might consider Jeff Ambio's Collecting and Investing Strategies for Walking Liberty Half Dollars. I don't own it, but a club member thought well of it. Might be worth a look.

Good luck!
