So, last Friday, a dear friend of mine happened to be graduating early in the morning (a Math major) from San Diego State University. It took me 2 hours 45 minutes to get there from just north of L.A. - I made it with just 30 minutes to spare to see her graduate. The huge smile that beamed from her face as she walked that stage made it all worthwhile! I wasn't planning on staying all day down there, but that's how it worked out thanks to local and regional traffic nightmares (4 1/2 hours to get home at one point)... so I made the best of it and visited a couple of banks in neighboring Santee while I waited for the trek home to be a more reasonable (less than 3 hour) timeframe... One of the banks gave me all LOOMIS rolls - $100 in quarters, $50 in dimes, $40 in nickels, and $10 in pennies... Well, on my lunch hour today I decided to go through the pennies... A lone wheatie popped out of the third roll I searched, and, much to my pleasant shock, when I turned it over, it turned out to be a coin I've been trying to find in circulation for over FIFTY years - a 1939-D! Once I got home from work today, I FINALLY filled that hole after all of these years! Yes, May 16, 2025 will be a day I NEVER forget! CRH Nickeloholic. 1,600,000 nickels searched in eight years! Have found FOUR complete Jefferson sets!

Congratulations John that is a very cool accomplishment. You were very productive in your down time. I find myself tryng to take advantage of situations when possible traveling and so on. Yes you could buy the set for a few bucks but it's the thrill of the hunt that makes it fun. Job well done.

Fantastic John77! I searched 980,000 pennies over a decade ago trying to complete the 1909-1958 Wheat cent collection. I still needed to find 14 of them when I finally threw up the white flag.

How many pennies did you have to search to complete that set?

A copper 1959-1982 Memorial cent set is still very doable. One can still find acceptable ones from rolls. I've done two books. John77, 1934-1958 from change and CRH is a major accomplishment. Good job!!!
