Hey Ya'll,
Hope everyone is having a great Memorial weekend. Has anyone else every come across this particular die scratch on a 1922 Peace dollar? I am unable to find another example of this die scratch on a 1922. The die scratch begins slightly left of the bottom loop of the "B" in "PLURIBUS", crosses under the "U", continues through the back of the eagle's head, crosses over the split in the Beak, and crosses over the bottom of the "U" and terminates on the last post of the "N" in "UNUM". Let me know what you think! Thanks!

Welcome to CCF!
It looks like a die crack, not a scratch on the coin. A die crack is raised from the surface caused by a crack in the die. A scratch is post mint damage, recessed. Die cracks are common on Peace dollars. You could go to Vamworld.com, look at the varieties listed, see if you can find a match. There may or may not be one listed with that crack.

Die cracks are interesting but usually do not add much value unless they are huge or became a die break. Mint errors like doubled die etc, add collector value.

Peace dollars can have die clashes, often seen as a spike on eagle's shoulder.

DYE is coloring for changing colors in fabric - DIE is numismatic terminology! And sure looks like a "Die crack".

In The Peace dollars series These Die Breaks show Plentiful. I have seen Hundreds of these, They are quite common. ( in the Peace dollar series ). Love a Good Die break Too.

I actually wish the Modern ways of minting Would revert back to some Sweet Broken die examples , Of days gone bye..... Thanks for posting the Topic, Best Wishes, MD
