Decided to sell some coins on ebay to offset some medical costs, and the first coin I sold was returned because of buyer's regret. Hopefully, my coin will be returned. Seems pretty scammy. I would love to mudsling the buyer ID if allowed. I would like to sell some of my collection, and I am wondering what advice the CCF has. Is there a decent online place that is not auction-based? I am done with ebay. *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***

Well, you can always offer it as a Buy It Now for a fixed price, and configure your store to not accept returns.
What is the price range and type of the coins? There are some sites which shall not be named here for cheap coins. Expensive coins, I cannot say.

@lucid, have you considered being just a little more active here on CCF and then selling in our subforum? https://goccf.com/f/159

Quote: Buy It Now for a fixed price, and configure your store to not accept returns. I had them all listed at a fixed price. I have had an ebay account for 20 years, so not new to ebay, The type of coins I was listing are the likes of 1909 S VDB LWC, 1955 DDO LWC, 1922 no D, 1921 D Merc, etc. I stopped selling on ebay way back when they started egregiously raising their fees and changing there policy so only mass sellers can make profit so I told myself if the first sale went smoothly, then I would continue, if not I will take my store down. If you do not offer returns you will get a INAD and ebay will always side with buyer, and in the rare case they dont they will just initiate a charge back so your are at a loss no matter what you do. You can only follow eBays guidance exactly and you might get at best 50% of your sell back. My first sale cost me money and I do not intend to sale a bunch of garbage to new numismatists which seems to be the only option to not lose money to scammers and regrets, no money to be lost on garbage coins. The best protections for sellers on ebay is not selling on ebay so I am on the search. My LCS has proved to be untrustworthy at best so its a no go there anymore. I used auction ninja and immediately had to cancel my CC after one purchase due to fraudulent charges, so no way am I going to sell on that site. I will just stick with collecting and any transactions or trades Ill save for a coin show if I can ever make it to one. Thanks for the guidance CCF

For more expensive coins like that, I imagine that Great Collections or Heritage auctions might be a better venue than ebay. Good luck!

I am as active as I can be. I am on the forum every day, but I only post when sharing something interesting, I have a question, or there is something relevant to say. I try to refrain from posting arbitrary comments to make a higher post count. How does selling on a forum work? what protections are in place for a buyer or a seller? ebay has all the money and resources in the world, and they have none for the seller, which is why I have closed my store. I would rather melt them all in my foundry before I do any of that again. I would love to trade and sell to and with like-minded and honest people, but that seems to be a fleeting ideology these days.

Quote: How does selling on a forum work? Read this for starters: https://goccf.com/t/429019As to your post count, I completely agree with your philosophy (while acknowledging that others feel differently). I was more trying to point out that you are about two thirds of the way there.

There are numerous online coin sales venues including Facebook, Instagram, auction houses, coin forums, etc. Facebook & Instagram can be excellent resources but there again, you'll need some established credibility to be successful with sales. I've done pretty well with Great Collections and with the coins you describe they could be a good option. As noted above, most all coin forums have a BST section. ebay can be problematic and you've had some bad luck. I have hundreds of successful sales on ebay as a "little guy" with exactly one return over the last 20 years. I wouldn't let one return ruin your day. Life happens everywhere, and it often isn't what we'd like, but we have to move on. Good luck with whatever you choose.

I appreciate all the advice and direction. I have no desire to fish for credibility on social media or be on it at all. I looked at Great Collections, and if I ever decide to part with any of my coins again, I will probably use them or travel to a coin show. I instead decided to trade some gold to offset the medical expenses I am facing.

Thanks, Spence. It seems well thought out. For now, I will engage in the forums when I have something to share or a question, but I will be abstaining from any online coin sales or purchases.
