Yess! I'm very glad that you posted this as I saw the article yesterday, but then forgot to make a thread on CCF. Here is a picture of the coin. Also, I learned a new word "valknut"!

"If you climb a good tree, you get a push."
-----Ghanaian proverb

"The danger we all now face is distinguishing between what is authentic and what is performed."

I dunno ... We've got a lot of valknut trees here in central Ohio

Indeed, that's a very cool find. I guess a lot of those early shillings are one-of-a-kind?

Splendid coin! Just looked at the link that was posted and I'm not sure I agree with the "good luck swastika" interpretation on the reverse cos of the stops at the ends of what amounts to a central cross - but I like the way that that motif extends into two oval interlocked links, which may represent the Christian message of Heaven and Earth being united, a graphic comment on the three triangles on the obverse. Alternatively, the three interwoven triangles might represent the Trinity. We may never know! What fun!

I think so...

AFAICT the 7th century gold shillings are also known by the name "thrymsa" (which appears to be an Anglo-Saxon rendering of "tremissis"). There's some debate of whether this was in fact their contemporary name (as opposed to some variant of "shilling"), and TIL that the actual spelling of "thrymsa" was borrowed from an early 11th century source that seems to have been using the word for archaicism.
