I agree, not UNC. I just don't know where to grade and what the value is and I'm interested in buying it.

If your comfortable with my opinion, I'm not entirely !! I have had some problems grading Morgans ,, then the value would be between 15 and 20.00 ,,

are the pics scans ? I'm a little put off by the luster on the coin,, scans sometimes wash out the luster and make the coin look dull,,

if the coin looks dull in hand its possible that it has been over dipped a bit,, and that would make the value drop even below the 15 to 20 level .

If there is no rush on the coin please wait for some of the more experianced Morgan guys to voice an opinion.

Although I'm terrible at grading from photos and have deliberately avoided Morgans, I'm not sure I agree with either of you. The photos apparantly don't show the coin's luster. The surfaces seem remarkably clean. Of course, they could be clean(ed) but I can't tell from the pix. If the luster on this coin is full, I think it would pull an MS grade. There are, to be sure, a couple of tics on the cheek, and the curl directly above the ear may be a little weakly struck. On the reverse, the breast feathers could be stronger, but you could say that for about 90% of all the Morgans I've ever seen. All things being equal, I might even venture to say MS64 if it's not cleaned. But, what do I know? I would go with Rick's call in any event if I were buying or selling it.

P.S. If it is a 64, the value is between $60 - $120 if PCGS and CoinValues are to be believed. Unless I made an error looking it up.

Thanks guys, All I have is the pictures to go by. So I want to stay on the safe side. As far as being cleaned, I'm leaning toward that it has not as I can see some tarnish, but what do I know. ;o)

Thats just it scans are horrible for showing the luster on a coin but great for detail !!

Morgans are tough for me,, Fred usually straigtens me out ,,There are just some things books cant teach you that experiance can,,

What I have posted is opinion and Stephen makes some good points,, His opinion is as valid as mine.

My opinion is based upon the amount of rub I see on the coin, cheek, hair detail especially the curl over the ear and lower curl and bun on the obverse, the breast and wing tips and legs arrowheads, and wreath on the reverse.

This dull appearance could be flip rub or drawer rub, and not actually be circulation wear, but buying from a photo they are concerns I would have and weigh in my decision.

One advantage to scans is that they help to show the uniformity of a weak strike as opposed to circulation. Note in this example that all the areas you'd expect a weak strike to show - the hair details above the face, below and behind the neck, the edges of the leavws and cotton bolls, the Phrygian Cap - show similar "wear." In most cases, a circulated coin won't wear so evenly. By the time you'd see noticeable wear in the hair and cap, the cheek should show loss of luster which doesn't appear to be the case.

I'm guessing this coin to be Uncirculated, a pairing between a fairly worn obverse die and a fairly fresh reverse one, and a nice Uncirculated coin at that. The difference in finish would be attributable to rub - the coin has to have been sitting somewhere for a long time.

Solid MS64. However, caveat emptor and a case as strong as mine can be made for AU55-58.
