Quote: The distrustful skeptical side of me reckons that 'someone' was trying to manufacture a 'mint error' coin to flog for a wad of cash David - you may be right! I was in my local bank today and just for fun got a £1 bag of pennies to check through! Never got a bag of pennies before, but where else can you get 100 coins for a pound? Exciting - found a (very corroded) 1944 farthing in the bag! Interesting result: 1944 farthing - 1 1971 - 3 1976 - 1 1983 - 1 1985 - 1 1986 - 3 1988 - 1 1989 - 2 1991 - 1 1992 - 1 1993 - 2 1994 - 5 1995 - 2 1996 - 1 1997 - 1 1998 - 4 1999 - 6 2000 - 7 2001 - 4 2003 - 2 2004 - 2 2005 - 3 2006 - 3 2006 - 5 2008 - 3 (all shield reverse) 2009 - 7 2010 - 6 2011 - 4 2012 - 3 2013 - 2 2014 - 1 2015 - 1 (Rank-Broadley portrait) 2015 - 2 (Jody Clark portrait) 2016 - 3 2017 - 6 Photos of the farthing that masqueraded as a 1p - the first George VI coin I've found in circulation since the old florins were demonetised in 1993!

Cool, Numis Rob - You sure find some exciting coins there. The tales that farthing could tell and the Frankentwopound coin!

Nice find Rob. With nearly 33 million of them minted, you should see plenty of them soon hopefully.

Yesterday I got 100 pennies, 100 5p coins, 100 10p coins, 100 20p coins and 200 50p coins from the bank! I've just finished sorting through them and was amazed at the number of 'alien' coins I found! Amongst the pennies: a 1999 Canadian cent, 1988 Irish penny (demonetised in its country of origin) and a 1994 Jersey penny. Amongst the 5p's - a 2008 Jersey Amongst the 20p's - a 1992 Guernsey Amongst the 50p's - a 1997 Isle of Man Only the 10p's were free of 'alien coins'

Very nice! I remember finding isle of man 50p in chance once back in London. I suppose they're made for circulation in the IoM, therefore sometimes appear as change in the UK.

Quote: Amongst the pennies: a 1999 Canadian cent Those 1999 Canadian cents must really get around. I got the same, a 1999 Canadian cent in change here in Southern California about 3 weeks ago.

I was driving past my local seaside amusement arcade today and found a parking space opposite, so I went in to have a look in the 'pusher' machines. I saw one Isle of Man 10p in an unplayable position in one machine. An adjacent machine had a nice lot of 10p coins on the edge plus a star prize - a £5 note attached to a keyring. I changed £3 into 10p's and started to gamble. I played for about 15 minutes, consistently breaking even, and then finally one 10p did the trick - the keyring and £5 note pulled down a veritable avalanche of 10p's! When I counted them there were 62! I have never previously got as many coins in one go from a pusher machine! There was almost a complete run of dates issued for circulation including a nice AU 1997 - it's not easy to get decent lion reverse 10p's in change these days. The newest coins were a couple of 2017s.

Sort of glad we don't have pusher machines in Oz. Reckon I would spend way too much time and money trying to add to my coin collection. I do though get a bit envious of your pusher machine tales! Maybe Australia could swap it's ghastly fleet of pokies for pushers.
