Same in NZ, our coin pusher machines got banned in the 1980s, after several had been tampered with (Coins went down the chute, but did not come into the tray - mirrors made it look like they did but disappeared into a secret box under the machine).
I am still quite young, but maybe an older Kiwi may remember them - I remember they were mostly 2 cent coins.
All we have are those horrible claw machines and they are rigged, most dispense knockoff fluffy junk - pokemons and Japanese cutesy pie character things and fake looking iphones (Well they did, have not been to an arcade since mid 2010s).
Pokies suck up $2 coins, but since 2018 most have been converted to notes or vouchers only and pay out in vouchers, I haven't played one since 2019 and all the pubs have been closed since August, so it may have changed now. I think that sucks, part of the joy I had in the days of my addiqtion was the sound of metal filling a tray and the ca ching, ching noises.
NumisRob seems your gamble paid off though.

I thought I remember seeing a coin pusher machine here in Australia but probably more than 20 years ago.

Snagged an Olympic badminton 50p the other day (the local convenience store lady saved it for me). Even factoring in that she probably gets through a lot of 50ps, it was still quite a surprise to see an Olympic one still out there.

Quote: NumisRob, a wire brush will fix it. :) Funny you should say that... I actually used a kitchen scouring pad and some cleaning liquid designed for getting limescale off taps and sinks. I wasn't concerned about damaging the coin, just about getting it in 'spendable' condition...
