What grade would you all give this 1956 Franklin? How much would you pay for it if you had a chance to buy it? I don't want to give a grade as I don't want to influence the grading. Edited by Irishraider 09/17/2006 10:04 am

Hi Irish
The pics are a bit small to see the lesser details of the coin, My grade estimate from these pics is AU-55 due to what looks like wear on the high points of the hair, forehead and chin,,the reverse however looks pretty clean, but I give the Obverse more weight in the grade.
coins value at that grade around 8 dollars.

Metalman, the wear that you see...could those be luster breaks?Because if they are I'd say MS61.

Yeh, sorry for the bad pics. I copied them off of an ebay auction. That is where this coin is located. You may have thought also if it is slabbed? It is, but by one of the third parties. NNC and was given a grade of MS-65. I realize that is ridiculous but was wondering if maybe it could at least go MS-62/MS-63. If so, then I would just crack it out and add it to my album. But my first impression of looking at the pics is weak strike, still has luster and may not come in at more than MS-60 but that is only my opinion. $8-$10 was what I was figuring also. I am just having trouble justifying the high prices going on in the coin biz these days and can't find the things I need anymore. Is getting really frustrating because at tops I have maybe $20 to spend each payday on my collection. I am getting to the Franklins that are going to start costing more than that so am thinking I am just going to have to suffer it and save. I like to buy something each payday though, is all I have to look forward to these days because of the financial cuts we had to take to move up here closer to the family. Who by the way, never comes by to see us anyway now that we even live in the same town! Argggh. LOL! Sorry, ranting and raving, makes me feel better sometimes though. Oh, here is a link to the auction, I see this guys stuff all the time. https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.d...MEWA:IT&rd=1*Edited to add link*

Its possible, but one I would not be willing to pay to find out,, the hair detail around the ear looks flat to me. If I could buy the coin for AU price I might take a chance otherwise I would hold on to my bucks for a better coin. Rick

Thanks Rick. Sometimes I just need to hear it from someone else. That was my first feeling as well. I need a little direction every now and then or I tend to get carried away on ebay.

As far as prices I am seeing a softening on atleast morgans the past month, I am sure other series either are following the same trend or will be soon. I am buying coins that were upwards of $300.00 that are now selling for under $200.00. I beleive it is definately a buyers market right now and will probably get even better within the next few months, so if you can't afford it today you may be able to down the road a couple weeks or so, so patience is the virtue at this time atleast with what I have been seeing going on by watching ebay and other online sites like DLRC

Take into account that when dealing with Franklins, check the bell lines. If they are completely there, it raises the grade.
