I'm a novice but something looks unnatural about it to me.

I beleive the braided hair cents are the hardest to trell if they are cleaned or not atleast to me anyhow for some reason. I can't really tell if it has been cleaned or not but I am sure someone else more familiar with copper cents will be able to tell you a better concrete answer

Hard to tell from that image, but it does appear cleaned and starting to re-tone.

I would guess that most coins with that look have been cleaned. It has wear, but no dirt, even in the nooks and crannies, which isn't common for circulated Cents. Methinks someone ran it through the wash in the pocket of their jeans.

If the lighting is correct, I would say it had an old dip and is retoning. At least it isn't a garish orange-red like some over-dipped large cents

I have one of those.

It was an experiment just to see how well copper and Jeweluster got along. Not well, as it turned out:

Mind you, the coin was absolutely useless before the dip. The scan grossly underestimates the degree of pitting; there are areas where layers of copper have been eaten away. This was a definite bodybag, beyond hope. It was entirely black, the same color as the areas which still show black.

Frankly, I was amazed that so much detail was left under all the stuff. I couldn't see it before the dip.

Next I'm going to acquire some Deller's and see what that'll do.
